Fix a typo

Fixes multiple error propagation issues

This will allow for testing of the type locally.

This also cleans up some error messages that were adding lots of
newlines to the end of errors as they passed through the system.

remove the repeated comment

Command: `make push DOCKER_REGISTRY=index.docker.io PROJECT=(your account)`
